The Embassy of Ukraine supported the premiere of the award-winning «20 Days in Mariupol» directed by Mstyslav Chernov at the new documentary festival DC/DOX Film Festival 2023. Recently, the film also received Jury and Audience Awards at Docudays International Festival.
«20 Days in Mariupol» is focused on the experience of international journalists during the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in the southern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol. The city fell victim to various Russian crimes against Ukrainian citizens and is temporarily under Russian occupation.
As Mstyslav is currently working in Ukraine, the film’s editor Michelle Mizner joined the Q&A session with the audience. In the closing remarks, Kateryna Smagliy, First Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine, stressed that even though it was not mentioned in the film, this is the second occupation of Mariupol by Russian forces since 2014. She emphasized that international unity is an essential factor in the liberation of Ukrainian cities and thanked the audience for the support of the film.
