On April 5-7, 2013, the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in the historic Georgetown area of Washington hosted an exhibition of art works by diplomats. «Diplomacy through Art» takes place every two years for the fifth time in a row.
This year the exhibition was attended by more than 60 diplomats and their families from about 20 different embassies (including countries such as Australia, Brazil, Italy, China, France, Switzerland, Japan), who presented their paintings, photographs, sculpture, embroidery and handmade jewelry. As part of the exhibition anyone could try national food of countries whose representatives took part in the exhibition.
The exhibition, which was organized with the support of the NGO «THIS for Diplomats», was intended to not only showcase the talents of diplomats, but also had a quite specific noble cause - all proceeds from the sale of the works presented at the exhibition, aimed at assisting victims of natural disasters in Haiti. Event was covered by «Voice of America».
Staff of the Embassy of Ukraine in the U.S. took part in the exhibition. Acting Head of the Economic Section of the Embassy Igor Baranetskyi and his wife Kateryna, showcased two photographs: «Dream of a lonely rose» (work from the series «Flowers» taken in Batumi, Georgia) and «La Defense»(work from the series «Reflections» taken in Paris, France).
