On April 12, 2013, Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Olexander Motsyk met with U.S. Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services Michael Scuse.
During the meeting the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector. The Ambassador informed M.Scuse of a huge agricultural potential of Ukraine, which is noted throughout the world as the «breadbasket of Europe», including export opportunities of the Ukrainian business and priorities to attract U.S. investments. The parties also marked a growth of the Ukrainian-American trade in agriculture by 60% in 2012 as well as a successful business in Ukraine of the leading U.S. agriculture companies, including John Deere, Case New Holland, AGCO, Cargill, DuPont Pioneer, Monsanto and others.
In his turn, M.Scuse expressed the U.S. interest in deepening bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector, particularly in the development of cooperation with Ukrainian research companies, increasing biofuel production in Ukraine and launching new investment projects. The parties also discussed the state of preparation by the Ukrainian side of the Interagency Memorandum on cooperation in agriculture sector.
Also, O.Motsyk and M.Scuse emphasized the importance of maintaining an ongoing dialogue on cooperation in the agricultural sector, including cooperation on the regional level.
The Ambassador underlined the readiness of Ukraine to take an active part in ensuring global food security.
