The Embassy of Ukraine to the U.S. participated in the Flower festival opened in the Washington National Cathedral, main Christian temple of the American capital, on May 3, 2013.
Washington’s premier outdoor festival, Flower Mart, has been held on the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral each May over the last 70 years.
One of the main ideas of the event is to make a flower composition which would feature both marvelous design and national traditions and customs. Ukraine has been participating in the Flower Mart for five years in a row, bringing forward its best floral traditions and design.
This year the Embassy of Ukraine to the U.S. presented the exhibit made of fresh flowers, a smaller copy of St. Sophia Cathedral, the world known architectural monument of the XI century. Over the centuries St. Sophia Cathedral was the main shrine of the Kyivan Rus. The Cathedral, as the principal temple of the state, was also the spiritual, politic and cultural center. Today this Ukrainian architectural pearl is a historical preserve and it is inscribed on the World Heritage List.
Many guests of the Washington National cathedral noted the traditional distinction and sophistication of the Ukrainian flower installation.
