On July 19-21, 2013 the 10th Annual Ukrainian Heritage Adoptive Family Weekend for American parents and their adopted Ukrainian children took place in educational and cultural center “Soyuzivka” near Kerhonkson, New York.
The event was organized by the Consulate General of Ukraine in New York in partnership with the Ukrainian National Association. In his welcoming remarks Consul General of Ukraine in New York Igor Sybiga thanked the parents for sharing love and providing care for their Ukrainian children.
Also, the Consular officials and adoptive parents discussed the ways of further cooperation of American families which adopted Ukrainian children with the Consular Offices in the United States. The Consular officials explained peculiarities of the Ukrainian legislation in the field of inter-country adoption and stressed the importance of submitting post-placement reports by the adoptive parents.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere. About forty American families enjoyed a cultural program at “Soyuzivka”. Children and their parents had an opportunity to study Ukrainian songs and various elements of Ukrainian folk dance as well as participate in workshops making their own Ukrainian Easter Eggs – Pysanka, Ukrainian beading, embroidery and ceramics. At the end of the meeting each family received Ukrainian souvenirs.
