On September 12, 2013 a reception celebrating the 22nd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence took place in the U.S. capital.
The event was held in the historic Willard Hotel, located two blocks from the White House and hosting dignitaries since 1850. Previous receptions were held by the Embassy in such outstanding institutions as Organization of American States Headquarters and Library of Congress.
The reception started with Ukrainian and U.S. anthems, performed by Spiv-Zhyttya choir from Washington DC. Ambassador Olexander Motsyk took the floor, stating that Ukraine highly appreciates its strategic partnership with the USA and expressing appreciation for continued U.S. support of European aspirations of our state. The government of Ukraine takes active steps to sign the European Association and Free Trade Area Agreement with the EU at the Eastern Partnership Vilnius Summit, he stated.
The event was attended by representatives of U.S. Department of State and other governmental agencies, Congress, diplomatic corps, representatives of leading organizations of Ukrainian Diaspora in the US, NGOs and Ukrainian and American press.
An exhibition about Ukraine’s scientific and technical potential and 90thanniversary of Victor Glushkov, a famous Ukrainian cybernetic scientist was presented at the reception.
The reception was held with the financial support provided by the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council.
