On September 20, 2013 Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Olexander Motsyk met with more than 20 American businessmen - members of the U.S. - Ukraine Business Council (USUBC), including well known around the world «ExxonMobil», «Chevron», «Halliburton», «The Boeing Company», «Visa» and «DuPont Pioneer».
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the State Department, the Department of Commerce and the Export-Import Bank of the United States. U.S.-Ukraine Business Council at the meeting was represented by Morgan Williams, President of USUBC and Director of Government Relations at SigmaBleyzer.
O.Motsyk informed the attendees of the status of implementation of social and economic reforms and measures taken by the Government of Ukraine to create favorable conditions for doing business in our country and improve its investment climate. Apart from that, the Ambassador of Ukraine elaborated on the preparations for signing Association and Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and the EU in November 2013 during the «Eastern Partnership» summit in Vilnius, Lithuania. In this regard, representatives of American business expressed their support for Ukraine’s European aspirations as well as confidence that the Association and FTA Agreement will have a positive impact on further development of Ukrainian-American cooperation in all spheres.
At the meeting, the Ambassador informed the participants of several important developments in bilateral relations between Ukraine and the United States: successful launch Antares rocket (September 18, 2013) from the NASA Wallops Flight Facility (Virginia), the first stage of which was designed and manufactured by Ukrainian Design Bureau «Pivdenne» and State Plant «Pivdenmash»; a decision of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (September 19, 2013) to transfer Ukraine to the first category according to IASA program, which will allow Ukrainian companies to resume direct flights to the U.S. and further develop cooperation in this area; and a decision of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council to support the production-sharing agreement with «Chevron» (September 20, 2013).
A special attention was paid to the export and investment opportunities of the national businesses, infrastructure projects, as well as pressing issues of trade, economic and investment relations between Ukraine and the United States, particularly in the spheres of energy, agriculture, aerospace and IT.
The representatives of American companies shared their successful experience of doing business in Ukraine and discussed future plans for business development in our country. Ukrainian Ambassador assured the businessmen that support of businesses and creation of a favorable investment climate are among the priorities of the Ukrainian Government and encouraged American business to continue to increase investment in the national economy by expanding existing production facilities or launching of new investment projects.
The meeting proved to be yet another important step to further development of Ukrainian -American trade, economic and investment cooperation, which also demonstrated support of Ukraine's European aspirations by the American business.
