On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Constitution of Ukraine, Ambassador of Ukraine in the USA Olexander Motsyk laid wrath to the monument to Taras Shevchenko in Washington DC.

Members of Ukrainian community and Ukrainian diplomats attended the ceremony.

Addressing the audience, Ambassador Motsyk noted the significance of historical events that took place 15 years ago and became one of the corner stones in establishment of the Ukrainian state.

The Principal Law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine laid the legal foundation of Ukraine’s independence, its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This fact contributed to the establishment of international authority and positive image of our country in the world. The event that took place on June 28, 1996, was the starting point of a new era in the history of Ukraine, - stressed the Ambassador.

The ceremony was followed by the reception at the Embassy of Ukraine.
