On 27th, 2010, Ambassador of Ukraine Olexander Motsyk attended the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s special commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The ceremony, which commemorated the 66th anniversary of the Auschwitz concentration camp liberation, was attended by the American public, members of diplomatic corps and the Holocaust survivors. A keynote address by Martin Weiss, a Holocaust survivor who was born on the territory of the present day Ukraine and then imprisoned in Auschwitz, was followed by a moment of silence and a memorial candle lighting ceremony.
Later Olexander Motsyk had a brief conversation with Museum Director Sara Bloomfield. He told Ms. Bloomfield that today people of Ukraine also commemorate victims of the Holocaust and that top government officials took part in the special commemorative events.
