The meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States Oleksander Motsyk and the US National Security Council Senior Director for WMD Terrorism and Threat Reduction Ms. Laura Holgate took place in Washington, DC on January 20th, 2011. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Mr. Daniel Russel was attending the meeting.

Two sides stressed on the further strengthening of the Ukraine-United States strategic partnership. They discussed the preparation to the Kyiv Summit on Safe and Innovative Use of the Atomic Energy. The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych initiated the Kyiv Summit in April 2011 within the framework of commemoration the 25th anniversary of the Chornobyl tragedy.

Ambassador of Ukraine and NSC Senior Director have exchanged views about the next meeting of the Ukraine-US Strategic Partnership Commission in February 2011.

Ambassador Motsyk informed American counterparts about current internal political situation in Ukraine.
