On November 5, 2014, the Embassy of Ukraine in Washington hosted a meeting of returned US Peace Corps volunteers who served in Ukraine.
The guests were welcomed by Ambassador Olexander Motsyk who thanked them for their contribution to the development of bilateral Ukraine-US relations and expressed his hope for the soonest restoration of Peace Corps operations in our country.
The event included a panel discussion of experience gained in Ukraine and exchange of opinions about the situation in our country and the Ukrainian-American partnership.
US Peace Corps started its operations in Ukraine in 1992, when Presidents Kravchuk and Bush signed a relevant bilateral agreement. As of 2012, Ukraine had the biggest number of American volunteers among all countries of the world. However, they were all evacuated in late February 2014 because of security considerations. It is expected that the American volunteers may return to western and central Ukraine in mid-2015.
