On August 7, 2015 Ukrainian participants of the SABIT Program met at the Embassy of Ukraine to the USA with Vitalii Tarasiuk, Minister-Counselor of the Embassy and representatives of the Embassy’s Economic and Trade Office.
The SABIT Program’s participants included Ukrainian timber and wood processing companies, leadership of the regional chambers of trade in Sumy, Khmelnytsky, Chernihiv and Donetsk regions of Ukraine, local authorities from Volyn’, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Mykolayiv and Kharkiv regions.
SABIT’s three-week training program (www.sabitprogram.org) on regional economic development, SME’s support, timber & wood processing issues covered workshops, facility visits and experience sharing in different U.S. cities and states.
Vitalii Tarasiuk and Trade Office’s representatives informed Ukrainian participants about Embassy’s activities in promotion of Ukrainian exports to the U.S. market, attraction of American investments, as well as about the first U.S.-Ukraine Business Forum (hosted in Washington D.C. on July 13, 2015); interregional cooperation between Ukraine and the USA, using general consulates and honorary consuls of Ukraine in the U.S., and about the advantages of the recently renewed the U.S. Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).
The sides highly appreciated the effectiveness of the SABIT’s training program and agreed on a number of specific areas of cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine to the United States, particularly through the development of interregional relations and organization with local Ukrainian regional chambers of commerce working visits of national exporters to the United States.
