Тhe Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly held a meeting with Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations of the U.S. House of Representatives Hal Rogers. The discussion was focused on issues related to the ongoing FY 2017 budget forming process.
The Ambassador thanked Chairman Rogers for his support for allocation of an increased funding for Ukraine in the U.S. FY 2016 budget and stressed the importance of ensuring adequate levels of financing for Ukraine in the upcoming budget, including on programs aimed at strengthening of defensive capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and implementation of reforms. Specifically, the Ambassador also spoke about the importance of enhancing the U.S. financial assistance to Ukraine in 2017 through provision of additional loan guarantees, as well as allocation of the necessary funding for implementation in Ukraine of projects of U.S. export-credit and development agencies, such as Ex-Im Bank and OPIC.
The Ambassador also asked the Chairman to support a number of Ukraine related legislative drafts currently considered in the Congress, including the ‘Ukrainian Warfighter Assistance Act’ envisaging additional U.S. security and reconnaissance assistance to Ukraine.
Chairman Rogers has assured Ukraine’s Ambassador he will continue to render the necessary support to Ukraine.
