On May 10, 2012 – the Embassy of Ukraine to the U.S. hosted the Presentation of M.G. Crisci book “Call Sign, White Lily”. This book is about the life of Lilia Litvyak, in particular about her participation in the WW II combat operations. Lilia was the world’s first female to have become a fighter pilot. She completed 268 missions and recording 15 solo kills against the technically superior German Messersmitt. Tragically, she crashed in Eastern Ukraine on 1 August, 1943. There is the Lilia Litvyak museum in the town of Krasny Luch of the Luhans’k region.
The guests of the presentation had the possibility to learn how the author and two Ukrainians in the town of Krasny Luch, namely museum curator - Valentina Vaschenko and English teacher - Yelena Sivolap, spent three years in a unique American-Ukranian cultural collaboration.
After the concert the guests were invited to watch the documentary about Ukraine and enjoy the rare collection of beautiful paintings, sculptures and other artistic pieces, as well as indulge in traditional Ukrainian dishes.
