On November 23, 2011, The Kharkiv Humanitarian University «People’s Ukrainian Academy» in association with The Embassy of Ukraine to the U.S. hosted an International Research and Application Internet Conference «Ukrainian-American contacts in higher education: best practices and prospects for development».
The conference was attended by representatives of the U.S. universities from the states as follows: Maine, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Ohio, and New York. The Ukrainian side was presented by The Kharkiv National University named after V.N.Karazin, The National Technical University «The Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute», The Kharkiv National University for Economy, The Kharkiv National Agrarian University named after V.V.Dokuchaev, etc.
The participants of the conference reviewed the status and prospects of Ukraine-U.S. cooperation in higher education, provided the American partners with an overview of major activities of Kharkiv higher education institutions, and identified possible ways of cooperation between Kharkiv and American universities.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Mr. Oleksandr Motsyk, noted, inter alia, that the development of international academic cooperation has been a Ukrainian strategic goal, and its achievement will secure competitive specialists for our country.
The Ambassador also informed the audience about a draft of Memorandum on Interagency Cooperation between the Ukrainian and U.S. Departments of Education, an initiative to hold U.S. education days in Kharkiv, and the project of the Embassy of Ukraine to the U.S. to deepen cooperation between Ukrainian and American universities.
