On November 19, 2011 – the Embassy of Ukraine to the U.S. hosted Omelian and Tetiana Antonovych Foundation Award ceremony, organized by the Embassy Cultural-Information Center in association with the Foundation board.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Mr. Oleksandr Motsyk underlined the considerable input by the Antonovych Foundation into preservation and restoration of historical heritage of Ukraine, development of Ukrainian Studies, as well as promotion of Ukraine’s historical and contemporary cultural heritage in the world, and shaping its positive international image.
The annual awards presented by the Antonovych Foundation designed to honor prominent literary works in Ukrainian or Ukrainian studies. Over the years, the Antonovych Foundation presented about 60 awards. The distinguished laureates include world renowned literature and science figures such as: Orest Subtelny, David Sonders, Robert Conquest, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Bohdan Hawrylyshyn, Yaroslav Dashkevych, Yuri Andrukhovych, Lina Kostenko, Oksana Zabuzhko, Bogumila Berdychowska, etc.
Ukrainian professor Stanislav Koulchitsky and his Italian vis-a-vis Andrea Graziosi became this year's award winners. The researchers explored in depth and described the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine. They were awarded for personal contribution to the above research and dissemination of knowledge on this topic throughout the world.
