On January 22, 2013 the Embassy’s representatives and members of the Ukrainian-American community commemorated the 94th anniversary of the proclamation of the Reunion Act between Ukrainian People’s Republic (UNR) and the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic (ZUNR) in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.
The solemn event started with a joint prayer by the Ukrainian Orthodox and Catholic priests at the local Ukrainian St. Mary Cemetery followed by a flower laying ceremony honoring the memory of one of the Reunion Act authors, ZUNR State Secretary Lonhyn Tsegelsky and other Ukrainian heroes perished for freedom in Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Embassy to the U.S. First Secretary Oresta Starak emphasized in her remarks the relevance of idea of national unity for the contemporary generation of Ukrainians and stressed that the Ukrainians all over the world have to consolidate their efforts for further strengthening of Ukraine’s statehood and position of our country at the international arena. She also read out the Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara greetings to Ukrainians abroad on the occasion of Unity and Liberty Day.
