Information of the Ukrainian Border Guard Service
Опубліковано 04 березня 2014 року о 23:30

According to the latest information of the Ukrainian Border Guard Service, 2 airborne battalions arrived to Klimovo, Bryansk region of Russia, located 55 km from the Ukrainian border, with plans to move towards the border

Also, 16 helicopters of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation moved towards the Ukrainian state border from the city of Bryansk, Russia, in close proximity to the capital of Kyiv.

Furthermore, there is an ongoing accumulation of military equipment in the territory of the Russian Federation in close proximity to the state border of Ukraine in the Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts.

Specifically, in front of the border section of the Kharkiv Border Guard Division:

  • 9 special trains with military equipment (armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles) arrived at Lisnyky railroad station in Voronezh oblast of Russia and unloaded in the territory of garrison 63796 (artillery depots located near the town of Lisky);
  • Near the junction of areas of responsibility of border guard detachments Pletenivka and Zhovtneve, in the Russian territory, about 1.5 – 2 km from the border, towards Bochkove-Leninskoye, there are 5 BTRs, 2 Ural vehicles and a field kitchen. Russian border guards restrict the movement of local residents in that area.

In front of the border section of the Donetsk Border Guard Division:

  • The Vesiolo-Voznesenovka border guard detachment of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation was mustered;
  • The Vesiolo-Voznesenovka – Novoazovsk border crossing is closed for Russian vehicles entering Ukraine.

In front of the border section of the Luhansk Border Guard Division:

  • Accumulation of military equipment about 3-4 km from the state border of Ukraine, towards Millerovo-Diakovo, was reported by locals;
  • Near the border of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, about 2 km from the state border, ongoing accumulation of military equipment was reported.

According to the information of Ukrainian Consulate-General in Rostov-on-Don, the Governor of Rostov oblast ordered the deployment of refugee camps in Kuibyshev district for refugees from Ukraine.

These actions by the Russian Government may indicate preparations of the Russian side for possible intervention into the Ukrainian territory across the land border.

The Embassy of Ukraine requests the United States Department of State and the United States Department of Defense to contact their Russian counterparts with an urgent call to immediately stop the accumulation of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border, which violate international laws, including the OSCE norms, and prevent further escalation of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
